1221951_to_sign_a_contract_2Starting or expanding a business is work, and a lot of it. Likewise, undertaking a new project can be quite consuming. Oftentimes we find that the most difficult hurdle can be convincing those around you. Arm yourself with the right persona, and confidently portray what you plan.

  1. Know where you’re going, and how. A business and/or project plan is a great strategy to organize your overall goals and line out the specific steps you intend to take. As you build your plan, there may even be some things you would not have otherwise thought. Requiring a more in-depth look at what you are really trying to do. Once completed, a thorough plan will be a tool for communicating with investors, vendors, distributors and employees. The most useful plan will be designed to evolve as progress is made; save it and continue to update the information.
  2. Be passionate, consistently. Be prepared to put in many hours, including weekends and holidays. Maintain an educated position, and stay informed. Both on managing your current position and staying informed with changes to your market. Look forward to learning lessons through failures. Expect to come across discouraging hurdles, and be prepared to learn from them and move on.
  3. Surround yourself with the right people. Draw toward people who live the life you want or exemplify the skills and attitude for which you strive. These same people will challenge you and your goals and can offer directional guidance. Create a network of contacts that can provide valuable advice, and can give you access to contacts, resources and events that you may not otherwise have access to.
  4. Seek environments of growth. Seek events and opportunities to expand your personal comfort and familiarity. This may be an environment that you normally would avoid, but the forced discomfort will encourage a unique familiarity. This can be a rare opportunity for learned and preparing for future challenges.
  5. Look like you should be taken seriously. It may go without saying, but so many forget the importance. This does not require an ironed suit, but dress appropriately. Personal appearance will speak volumes before you can even introduce yourself. Portray that you are serious, passionate, informed and ready for anything. Determine what your “appropriate” is, in regards to dress, speech and body language. Practice the image constantly.

Success on your project and growth of your business is a mental mindset; a predetermined decision which you can make. Make it early on, and there will be no doubt to anyone you encounter that it will happen.
